The Florida Construction Generic Permit (CGP) serves as the main tool for enforcing NPDES requirements on construction activities. It applies to sites disturbing at least one or more acres of land or disturbing less than one acre of land but are part of a larger common plan of development. This permit regulates construction sites that may discharge stormwater to surface waters of the state or to a municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4). The CGP requires operators to file a Notice of Intent (NOI), prepare a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), and implement best management practices (BMPs) to control erosion, sediment, and pollutants. This process provides NPDES coverage and ensures water quality protection.
To maintain Compliance:
File the Notice of Intent (NOI)
Develop and Maintain a current SWPPP and keep all required permits and records on-site
Install and maintain erosion and sediment control BMPs
Conduct routine & rain event inspections and document all findings and corrective actions
Stabilize disturbed areas quickly and control track-out from the site
Prevent pollution through proper material handling, waste management, and spill response
Close out with final stabilization and Notice of Termination (NOT) submission
