NPDES Inspections and BMP Oversight

Stormwater inspections are a regulatory requirement providing a real-time snapshot of site conditions, protecting water quality. Whether on an active construction site, industrial facility, or supporting an MS4, inspections verify that erosion, sediment, and pollution controls are working effectively and that stormwater discharges meet NPDES, state, and local permit requirements. KCI provides comprehensive stormwater inspection services that go beyond checklists. Our team documents site conditions accurately, evaluates both temporary and permanent controls, manages corrective actions, and guides clients through complex regulatory requirements.

KCI services include:

  • Construction Sites - NPDES inspections are required at the site every seven days and 24 hours after a rain event. A rain event is defined in the FCGP as 0.5" of continuous rainfall without a four-hour gap. Inspections must document site conditions, identify any BMP deficiencies, and outline corrective actions needed to maintain permit compliance.
  • Industrial Facilities - Under the Multi-Sector Generic Permit (MSGP), facilities must perform quarterly routine and annual comprehensive site inspection to evaluate stormwater controls, housekeeping practices, and potential pollutant sources.
  • Municipalities (MS4 Programs) - Municipal stormwater programs require routine system inspections of outfalls, infrastructure, and BMPs, along with scheduled compliance evaluations and documentation to support ongoing permit reporting and program effectiveness.
