There is no question that 2025 tested the strength and adaptability of Florida’s construction industry. Elevated interest rates and fluctuating material costs slowed the rapid pace of commercial and residential development that had defined previous years.
This past year, Florida advanced new regulations aimed at improving water quality and strengthening stormwater infrastructure statewide. Notably, the requirement for environmental management on many industrial and construction stormwater systems will elevate oversight and lead to more thorough inspections in the coming year. Increased documentation and reporting standards will also raise expectations for proper BMP design, maintenance, discharge monitoring, and record-keeping. With these advanced measures possibly on the horizon, we should all anticipate more robust stormwater management practices that will continue to enhance environmental protection across the state.
