The goal of a quality Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) is to promote stormwater management and erosion and sediment control. One way to effectively deliver results is to maximize stormwater ground infiltration as much as possible. Stormwater infiltration is the process when stormwater runoff flows into and through the soil. Effective infiltration occurs when rainfall is retrieved quickly and efficiently into pervious surfaces and potentially directed to a stormwater infiltration BMP. Adequately performing stormwater infiltration can dramatically reduce the volume of water being discharged from the site. Unnatural conveyance systems and an aggregate level of impervious surfaces, such as parking lots and roads, create a fast track for rainfall directly towards inlets that drain directly into our water bodies. This will cause stormwater to have the inability to naturally percolate and absorb into the ground.
