Conserve Energy

We need to create daily habits of turning off electrical devices while not in use. The goal is to only use electricity when we need it. When we proactively conserve energy, we can lower our impact on the environment.

Conserving energy helps reduce our impact on the environment by decreasing the demand for fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. By using energy more efficiently and responsibly, we can help mitigate the negative effects of pollution and global warming.

Over the past century, most of our electricity use comes from the burning of fossil fuels. Unfortunately, fossil fuel is not unlimited or renewable. One day this type of fuel supply will no longer be available. Even though the world is still expected to continue to produce fossil fuels, renewables could account for almost 70% of the world’s energy mix in the next 30 to 40 years. Today, it is nearly impossible to produce energy without creating an environmental impact in some way.

Here are three primary impacts from the production of energy to the environment:

Air pollution – The emission of air pollutants from fossil fuel combustion is the major cause of urban air pollution. Burning fossil fuels is the main contributor to the emission of greenhouse gases.

Water pollution – Energy is produced using oil, natural gas, and coal that has implications on water quality. Today’s power generation is created through heating water for steam and this water is released into our waterways.

Solid waste disposal – Although nuclear power is an environmentally-friendly form of electricity generation, this process produces radioactive waste products. Extracting coal creates substantial amounts of solid waste that are produced during mining and fuel preparation.

Let us all make an assertive effort to use lower amounts of energy and electricity. If we do, we can dramatically slow down the use of fossil fuel and help provide a cleaner environment. Overall, conserving energy is a responsible and forward-thinking way to protect the environment, save money, and ensure a more sustainable future for all.
