One of the most common traditions of celebrating a New Year is to create a Resolution. For those of you looking to become more green and earth friendly KCI wants to share some of our favorite Go Green Tips!
Cheers to a Happy New Year!
- Wash your car in the grass and avoid soapy water running into storm drains
- Do not blow leaves or grass clippings into the storm drains
- Don’t water your lawn while it is raining
- Take a bag on walks to pick up litter
- Use tupperware instead of Zip-lock bags or Styrofoam to-go containers
- Reuse pickle jars and lunch meat containers
- Use a glass growler for beer instead of cans or bottles
- Reuse to-go containers from restaurants.
- Reuse boxes from online orders.
- Reuse small containers for cosmetics when flying.
- Turn off the lights when you leave a room
- Set the air conditioner on a timer so that you don’t cool your house or apartment while you are away
- Install solar panels
- Drink water from a reusable bottle
- Unplug electronic devices that are not in use or when they are fully charged
- Use a sleep-timer on your TV if you sleep with it on
- Plan your car trips efficiently so that you drive less
- RECYCLE!
- Replace CFL and incandescent light bulbs with LED bulbs
- Open blinds to use natural light during the day
- Repair big items instead of replacing them immediately
- Visit a beach or state park to remind you of the intrinsic value of nature
- Use vinegar and water as a shower cleaner, glass cleaner
- Use baking soda to freshen carpets
- Use lemons to clean and freshen garbage disposal
- Use vinegar to clean drains
- Use toothpaste to clean chrome fixtures
- Reuse shower curtain hooks to hang accessories
- Take showers together 🙂

- Trade items of food with neighbors.
- Shop thrift stores
- Shop local
- Buy local
- Telecommute
- Wash full loads of laundry
- Use online document sharing
- Plant a tree
- Buy what you use. Use what you buy.
- Carpool
- Recycle electronics
- Use rechargeable batteries
- Reuse coffee grounds for plant fertilize
- Reuse coffee grounds as a natural exfoliant
- Turn off the water when brushing your teeth
- Water plants and grass with leftover water in bottles, when cooking, etc.
- Use grocery bags as trash bags.
- Hang dry clothes.
- Plant a garden of fruits, vegetables, and herbs
- Create a new dish out of leftovers.
- Build a compost bin
- Use old t-shirts, pillow cases, etc. for cleaning around the house
- Use the sun to dry fruits, meat, etc.
- When drying a load of laundry, put in a towel – it will absorb the extra moisture and make drying time faster.
