It’s a Necessity to Comply

Stormwater runoff is referred to as rainfall not immediately absorbed by soil. Stormwater is runoff generated by developed land and impervious areas such as paved streets, parking lots, and building rooftops. The main concern is the abundance created during rainstorms and the possible degradation of water quality that can be significantly affected by industrial activity exposed to rainfall. Today, we are seeing an increase in industrial facilities performing the regulated necessities to ensure they are maintaining and managing stormwater compliance.

Many industrial facilities are required to receive coverage under the Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP). The MSGP is under the federal and designated local state authorities of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program. Industrial activities that fall under the scope of the MSGP regulations, may be required to obtain MSGP coverage to comply with environmental regulations and prevent stormwater pollution.

KCI was founded initially on consulting the construction industry on stormwater compliance. However, in the past year, we have seen federal and state regulatory agencies increasing attention and resources across the industrial space. Their objective is to elevate enforcement by tightening regulatory stormwater management, compliance expectations, and rigorous inspections. These efforts aim to improve water quality, protect public health, and ensure sustainable environmental practices are being employed in the industrial sector.

Industrial facilities must comply with local and federal stormwater regulations to avoid hefty fines. Industrial businesses who maintain awareness of the possible dangers of stormwater runoff and penalties find becoming compliant a necessity. Additionally, companies that are proactive in environmental stewardship often enjoy a better public image. This can lead to increased customer loyalty and a competitive advantage in the market.

It is understandable that just one individual industrial site working hard to manage stormwater runoff pollutants may not make a huge impact.  When many industrial facilities come together and do their part, collectively it creates a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment – Industrial businesses benefit, communities benefit, and the environment benefits.

The regulation of stormwater discharges is a critical component of the Clean Water Act, and it’s an area where KCI can provide valuable expertise and support to its clients. KCI‘s expertise in navigating the NPDES stormwater permitting process, developing comprehensive Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), and implementing best management practices can be invaluable to clients subject to these regulations.

KCI has a rigorous program to educate, elevate, and evolve an industrial client’s ability to meet and exceed the necessities of compliance with regulatory stormwater requirements. Call us today on 888-346-7779
