Safeguard our Ecosystem

We live on an amazing planet. Earth is our delicate world that perfectly provides us with everything we need through the formation of natural resources. The Earth provides us with such things as soil to grow our food, air to breathe, water to drink, animals, and plants. All of us must do our part to help conserve these precious resources. Everything we need to survive as a species comes from these resources.

Conservation is the practice of caring for these resources so all living things and our ecosystem can benefit from them now and in the future. The human population on Earth has grown substantially. Today, there are billions of people who consume resources more rapidly than they can be reproduced or replaced. Many natural resources are unable to be replaced, such as fossil fuel which is considered a nonrenewable resource. The survival of humanity is dependent on each one of us doing our part to guard our natural resources.

Many of us may agree, we all can do a little better at taking care of the environment. We also have heard that great achievements are made up from many small accomplishments. If all of us do small things that will support a more positive environment, this will create a healthier overall ecosystem. A little negligence and delay in doing something proactive to help the environment can ultimately have a devastating effect in the long run.

Safeguarding our ecosystem involves a combination of individual actions, collective efforts, and policy changes. Here are five things we can all do individually that can make an enormous impact:

  • Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Let us work on conserving resources and landfill space.
  • Conserve water. The less water we use, the less runoff and wastewater that eventually ends up in our waterways.
  • Shop wisely. Buy less plastic for a more sustainable future for all.
  • Plant a tree. Trees help save energy, clean the air, and help combat climate change.
  • Conserve Electricity. Create daily habits to use less energy.

Over the next several weeks, we will dive a little deeper into each one of these powerful perspectives that can make a difference. We will discuss when these five activities are performed proactively, they can help, in a small way, change the world we live in.
